Neem Oil for Flea Control on Your Pets
Using Neem oil for help in controlling fleas and ticks on your pet is an excellent idea. The Neem oil is gentle and natural and it will not only kill the fleas and ticks but will leave the skin under the coat conditioned and make the pet hair stronger and healthier. Many people like to use Neem oil products on their pets because the oil helps to stop the pet from shedding as much hair.
You can buy commercially made shampoos, soaps, and sprays that contain Neem oil to use on your pets. These sprays need to have the full amount of 3% to be really effective. You cannot find commercially made products that contain more than 3% Neem oil because even though it is beneficial, and is considered safe, you can get too much of a good thing and harm the animal.
You can purchase raw Neem oil and place it in the favorite shampoo that you normally use on your pet when you bathe them. You have to remember that Neem oil has a really strong and pungent odor. Think of garlic or sulfur and you will know how pungent this odor is. If you are adding it to a shampoo that you already use and like then make certain that shampoo has a really strong scent so that it can overpower the Neem oil odor. You can also add some essential oil like orange oil that has a strong odor to mask the pungent odor of the Neem oil
Many people mix a portion of an essential oil like rose geranium with raw Neem oil and massage it into the fur of their pets. This can help to promote a healthy hair growth for the animal and it will deter fleas and other biting parasites. If your dog or cat has sensitive skin you can dilute the raw Neem oil with olive oil before you massage them with it. The diluted substance should not irritate their skin and can be applied more frequently so that you can have the same level of flea protection you would get using just Neem oil.
You may also place Neem oil around the edges of the dogs ears after you have cleaned them so that you prevent them from having ear mites and you can stop fleas and ticks from getting into their ears. Do not pour Neem oil into the inner ear of a dog or a cat as this would be painful for the animal.
You can mix the Neem oil into a spray bottle with some essential oil like the orange, or the rose geranium, and spray the bedding where your et sleeps to help prevent the fleas from getting back on them. You can spray your yard where the dog plays the most frequently to help them from getting the pests when they go outdoors to do their business or to play.
